Extraordinary

It's a difficult thing when you realize that you are not as extraordinary as you think. One could compare it to being hit in the face by those round rubber balls used in dodge ball. You know the ones I am talking about, they're not the least bit forgiving and they always seem to be thrown by the strongest person playing. The worst is when you don't even see it coming. Today, I didn't see it coming. As I sat scrubbing the counters at work, convincing myself that cement would be easier to remove than todays mystery soup, I realized that I am not as amazing as I thought I was. Now stop that train of thought. I know you are thinking that this sounds like some bimbo's sob story, but stay with me just a while longer. I have a point to make I promise. You see I love my friends and who they are and how they treat me and because of this I considered myself a happy person. Yet, today, I was shocked to find that it is not all rainbows and butterflies in the land of friendship. My first response was to complain to the nearest open heart. I wallowed in my own self pity and would not deviate from the topic. It was annoying even to myself. Then I considered this, any normal person can be happy when circumstances are going their way. It is not a choice to be happy at those times but merely a result of the good environment. The only time the choice to be happy actually comes into play is when it is equally possible to be upset. The possibility of being upset is linked with a reason to be upset. Therefore, choosing joy in its most basic form means to be upbeat WHEN and not if things are going wrong. By bellyaching when I was hurt I did not stand out from or opposed to the norm, I let myself be ordinary. Ordinary people do not change the world, so I take this lesson in stride on my journey to become extraordinary.
